The Temple of Abu Simbel, beside Lake Nasser in southern Egypt. When the Aswan High Dam was constructed in the 1960's, archaeologists moved the entire temple stone-by-stone to a higher place to avoid it being submerged by the rising water. The temple was dedicated to the gods Ra Harakhty, Amun and Ptah. Each statue of Ramses II is approximately 20m and show him growing progressively older. |
